I was living at Meher Mount in 1977 when I was able to afford to travel to India to visit Avatar Meher Baba’s Samadhi (Tomb Shrine) and His mandali (close disciples) for the first time.
My 10 days in India were some of the most joyful days of my life.
One day while sitting on Mehera’s porch at Meherazad*, I showed Mehera a photo I had taken of Baba’s Tree. The photo was taken at a distance from Baba’s Tree as the sun was beginning to rise.
The sky was filled with beautiful vibrant pinks and blues. The blue was the sky blue of Meher Baba’s flag.+
Mehera held the photo in her hands close to her face and said with the most tender and loving words, “Pink and blue, I love you.”**
It was a great privilege to witness this spontaneous expression of Mehera’s love for her Beloved that was sparked by Baba’s Tree of Meher Mount.

*Mehera J. Irani (1907-1989) was Meher Baba’s closest woman disciple whom Meher Baba called the purest soul in the universe. The porch is part of the house in Meherazad, India, where Meher Baba lived the last year’s of His life. After He dropped His body in 1969, several of the women disciples continued to live in that house, including Mehera. Hence, it became known as “Mehera’s porch.”

+Meher Baba’s flag of seven colors represents the seven planes of consciousness. In positioning the the colors, Meher Baba said red should be at the bottom of the flag and sky blue at the top. “Besides representing the seven planes of consciousness, these colors also represent sanskaras [impressions].
