Individual experiences and stories inspired by Baba’s Tree, in addition to those featured in Tree of Fire: A Story of Love and Resilience.
Tree of Fire Stories: The Tree and the Hawk
"In 2002, preparations were being made at Meher Mount to celebrate the anniversary of Avatar Meher Baba’s visit here on August 2, 1956," explained Sam Ervin, poet and Meher Mount board president.
"As I reflected on the events and significance of Meher Baba’s day at Meher Mount, this poem began to take shape as a small thing I could offer."
Tree of Fire Stories: Getting Married Under Baba’s Tree
“When it came time to get married, Baba’s Tree seemed like the place to get married,” said storyteller and former resident caretaker Billy Goodum.
“I think when we all were under the tree having the ceremony, it felt like we were being held,” added Pamela Goodrum and former resident caretaker.
Tree of Fire Stories: I Have to Tell You
“Most of the people that come to Meher Mount are not people that come for Meher Baba. They come because they heard there is a nice view or they heard that it’s a great place to meditate. They come for that. Or they come because they know there are wildflowers and nature,” said Ellen Kwiatkowski, former resident caretaker.
“I often notice a difference in people from when they arrive versus when they leave. Some people will want to tell you about what happened while they were here. Some people won't,” Ellen explained.
Tree of Fire Stories: Raptors
Visitors to Baba’s Tree at Meher Mount in Ojai, California, are often surprised at what they find.
"I've never seen this before," said Jackie DeSantis from the Ojai Raptor Center. She made this comment watching what happened after she released a rehabilitated American kestrel at Avatar’s Point next to Baba's Tree. Here's the story.
Guest caretakers Kristina Somma and Robert Turnage tell this delightful story.
Tree of Fire Stories: The Bees
“This is one of the more fascinating stories of how Meher Mount and Baba’s Tree are like a magnet for many people,” says storyteller and resident caretaker Ray Johnston.
“It speaks to the enormous purpose and connectivity, not only of Meher Mount, but also of Baba’s Tree.”
Tree of Fire Stories: The Biker
Visitors to Baba’s Tree at Meher Mount are often surprised at what they find. In turn, the resident caretakers who greet these guests never know who will visit.
In this instance, one afternoon a biker pulled up on his Harley Davidson asking “What is this place?”
Former resident caretakers Pamela and Billy Goodrum share this story.
Tree of Fire Stories: Cathedral Tree
Visitors to Baba’s Tree at Meher Mount in Ojai, California, are often drawn to Baba’s Tree sitting at Avatar’s Point with views in all directions.
They are embraced by the silence, by the beauty, and by a special feeling. Over the years, Baba’s Tree has been called a cathedral tree as described in this video.
The Meher Mount Logo Story
The Meher Mount logo symbolizes Avatar Meher Baba, His presence at Meher Mount, and the spiritual energy He left.
"You don't know how lucky you are,” Meher Baba said at Meher Mount. “I come down to be with you and laugh and be happy together, but do not forget, I am the highest of the high." This logo, evocative of Baba’s Tree, is a symbol of that metaphorical coming together of earth and sky, of heaven and earth. Click here for a free sticker of Meher Mount’s logo.
