Their Laughter Was Music to His Ears

Jennifer Franks

Part of the collection of stories related to Baba’s Tree:

By Jennifer Franks

Every time I hear about Baba’s Tree, I remember something that happened to me at Baba’s Tree in the early 2000s.

I was visiting with my two young boys.  Baba’s Tree was really inviting, and they both started to climb the limbs on the tree. Then I noticed all the flowers at the base of the tree and thought maybe my boys shouldn’t disturb anything.

I started to tell them to climb down from the tree, but before I would even say the words, Meher Baba’s face appeared to me (kind of see-through and sparkly like) about a foot from mine.

I got a message that sounded like laughing children — more than just my own boys, more like a playground with children. — and tinkling bells.

He instructed me to leave them be, as their laughter was music to His ears.  Feeling loved, yet surprised, I did as He asked!

In the moment, I felt a mix of surprise, shock and peace — it was so peaceful, accepting and loving. In an instant, it was over. His image disappeared, but that feeling and understanding remains. It was a healing!

Baba’s Tree is indeed a blessed spot.  I wonder how many others have seen Meher Baba there.

My bliss and my infinite sense of humor sustain me in my suffering. The amusing incidents that arise at the expense of none lighten my burden.

Baba's Tree

Avatar Meher Baba blessed Meher Mount with His presence in 1956, spending time under the Coast Live Oak now called Baba's Tree. Since then, it has become a touchpoint for visitors — a sacred spot to spend time in quiet contemplation to find inspiration, solace, and joy. And for others, it’s a place to connect with nature.
