Meher Mount

Your Friday photo...

“It was a great and splendid experience at Meher Mount yesterday. I felt the vibration of Meher Baba’s presence in nature,” said visitor Nandhu Balakrishnan.

He sent along his photograph of the cloud formation above Meher Mount as  it reminded him of the Om symbol. Which in turn reminded us of the statement below from Paramahansa Yogananda when he visited Meher Mount in 1946.

“This place is a dream Oriental paradise. One does not even have to focus to hear the Om sound here.”
— Paramahansa Yogananda, November 1946*

The syllable Om is composed of the three sounds a-u-m (in Sanskrit, the vowels a and u coalesce to become o), which represent several important triads: the three worlds of earth, atmosphere, and heaven; thought, speech, and action; the three qualities (gunas) of matter (goodness, passion, and darkness); and the three sacred Vedic scriptures (Rigveda, Yajurveda, and Samaveda). Thus, om mystically embodies the essence of the entire universe. Om is said at the beginning and end of Hindu prayers, chants and meditation, and is also used in Buddhist and Jain rituals.+

Nandhu Balakrishnan shared the meaning of the Om sound/symbol, to him:

A (Awe): represents creation, the waking (conscious) state, and the Hindu creator god Brahma.

U (Oooh): Represents preservation, the dreaming (subconscious) state, and the preserver Hindu god Vishnu.

M (Mmmm): Represents transformation or dissolution, the deep sleep (Unconscious) state, and the Hindu deity Shiva.

Silence (Turiya): The quietness that follows the chant, representing the absolute or infinite state of being beyond the other three phases.
