Memories of Meeting Meher Baba in 1956

By Buzz Glasky, Manager/Caretaker

In May 2014, Charles and Dorothea Deed and their son Alex came to Meher Mount for one last visit. In their nineties, Charles and Dorothea had just moved to Boise, ID.

MEETING MEHER BABA IN 1956

Charles met Avatar Meher Baba at Meher Mount on August 2, 1956. Dorothea met Meher Baba a few days earlier at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood.

I wish you could have seen Dorothea's face as she recalled this meeting with Meher Baba. Although 58 years had passed, she was reliving that meeting as if it were today.

When Meher Baba put His hand on her shoulders, she felt a terrific electric charge go through her body. She said it took a couple of weeks to feel "normal" after the Master's touch.

DETERMINED TO SEE MEHER BABA

In 1947, Charles was determined to see Meher Baba and tried to get aboard a working ship in North Carolina going to Mumbai, India. He could not work it out with the captain so he decided to walk, no hitch hiking, across the country to California.

As he was walking to the Meher Spiritual Center in Myrtle Beach, SC, a car stopped and offered him a ride. He declined and continued his walk. The driver came back later and again offered a ride to Charles, and again he declined.

He reached the Center a few days later and met up with Darwin Shaw, a Meher Baba follower, and they had a great time talking about Meher Baba. And just guess who else was staying at the Center? The kind folks that had offered Charles a ride!
